THE BMW 2020 X7 M50i
Just introduced the X7 is BMW’s largest SUV. While it provides three rows of seats like its relative, the X5, the X7 includes a third-row seat that is roomier and more comfortable. It also helps that the X7 is packed with enough technology and performance to maximize convenience and excitement.
The 2020 model year marks the debut of the M50i, a more performance-oriented version of the X7. Its defining characteristic is its beefy powertrain. Under the hood is a 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 that puts out 523 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque: enough output to get the vehicle from 0 to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds. Pinned to the V8 is an 8-speed ZF automatic transmission, which activates a sporty feel with its Sport and Manual shift modes and includes shifting convenience with wheel-mounted paddle shifts. With BMW’s standard xDrive system the transmission sends power to all four wheels for maximum engagement with the driving surface—even when it is compromised by rain, snow, or ice.
The engine sound of the X7 M50i is customizable to be aggressive at all times or only when driving in certain driving modes. This allows the driver to choose between experiencing the sporty characteristics of the M50i or the extreme levels of luxury on offer.
The cabin of the 2020 BMW X7 M50i exudes a luxurious aura. The three rows of seats, which seat up to seven people, are covered in Vernasca or optional Merino leather. Also present are the Anthracite Alcantara headliner above and elegant wood or metal trims all around. In line with its sporty orientation, the M50i includes a three-spoke leather-wrapped M Sport steering wheel.
The standard cargo space is measured at 12.8 cubic feet, you can fold down the third row to expand it to 48.6 cubic feet or both the second- and third-row seats for maximum hauling capacity of 90.4 cubic feet. That’s more than enough space for luggage, grocery bags or even home renovation supplies when needed.
For entertainment and connectivity, the X7 M50i brings together a 16-speaker 464-watt Harman Kardon Surround Sound system, partnered with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto Wireless Smartphone integration. Two USB ports for hooking up mobile devices plus a wireless charging pad, a Wi-Fi hotspot that includes a three-month/3 GB trial, natural speech recognition and 6 months of SiriusXM All Access content round out the exceptional connectivity options of the X7. The 12.3-inch iDrive touchscreen that integrates all these elements presents crisp graphics and quick responses to inputs, and it is accompanied by a knob and touchpad on the center console, dashboard buttons, and BMW Gesture Control allowing you to interact with it whichever way you prefer.
The BMW Connected Package Professional provides various functions that include real-time traffic information, remote door lock and unlock, stolen vehicle recovery, and BMW Remote Engine Start on your mobile phone from anywhere in the world.
Several other features are on board to make driving as comfortable as possible. The multi-contour front seats feature 16-way power adjustability, positioning memory, 4-way power lumbar support, three-stage heating system for cold days, optional ventilated front seats and optional massage function with numerous programs to select from. Five-zone climate control consists of separate controls for the driver, front-seat passenger, and second- and third-row occupants to personalize their heating and cooling preferences.
Accessing and starting the BMW X7 M50i is a breeze. You can start the engine as you walk toward the SUV; if you haven’t when you get in, you can simply push a button next to the gear shift lever – both of which can be outfitted in Crystal Glass. The new keyless entry system can be set up to automatically unlock as you approach and lock as you leave negating the need to interact physically with the vehicle.
Active Driving Assistant
The Active Driving Assistant system on the M50i includes frontal collision warning, blind-spot detection, and lane departure warning to help you avoid crashes when driving. There’s a surround-view camera for a 360-degree viewing perspective when slowing maneuvering in and out of parking spots or tight areas, with parking sensors to alert you when you’re getting too close to something (or someone). The Driving Assistant Professional also allows semi-autonomous driving with limited or no interaction with the steering wheel, and in certain situations will allow longer periods without contact while it monitors the driver’s eyes for attention.
A head-up display displays vital driving information right in your line of sight to reduce distraction on the road. The BMW Laserlight Headlights feature high beams that automatically switch on when it’s hard to see ahead of you and switch off when oncoming traffic is detected to prevent blinding fellow motorists.
A STATEMENT OF UNIQUENESS
The X7 M50i creates a harmonious balance of raw power and seemingly infinite luxury allowing its occupants to sit back, relax, and look forward to longer drives.
