The Learning and Development Specialist will design, develop, and deliver company-wide learning and development programs to Birchwood team members and leaders. This individual should be a natural relationship builder and encourage an environment of collaboration and personal and professional development.

What you will do:

  • Apply adult learning methodologies to deliver and design instructor-led courses in the areas of personal and leadership development, onboarding, communication, etc.
  • Provide company-wide facilitation and consultation services on all matters related to learning and development and related initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain strong, customer-focused relationships with team members, leaders, subject matter experts, and colleagues.
  • Design training for diverse modalities that include instructor-led classroom-based, virtual synchronous and asynchronous delivery, e-learning, micro-learning, and performance support programs.
  • Create continuous improvement plans to enhance existing programs.
  • Research best practices and industry trends with respect to content and delivery methods,
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts to identify organizational needs and/or changes,
  • Assess the needs of the participants before, during and after course deliveries.
  • Apply principles of project management and instructional design to manage learning programs throughout their lifecycle (needs assessment, design, development, delivery, and maintenance).
  • Contribute to standards and evaluates courses or programs and implements revisions to improve quality.
  • Facilitate partnerships and team building sessions with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Actively engage in continuous improvement.

Essential Skills / Details

  • Minimum of three years of facilitation, instructing or course development experience. Experience in a corporate environment is considered an asset.
  • A bachelor’s degree in a related field, such as education or organizational development is preferred, however, equivalent education and/or experience will be considered.
  • Certificate in Program Development for Adult Learners (PDAL) preferred
  • Certification in FranklinCovey preferred
  • Knowledge and practical application of adult learning and instructional design theory and best practices.
  • A demonstrated commitment to lifelong learning, as shown by industry involvement, the completion of certifications, and/or additional formal education.
  • Experience using rapid authoring tools, software, and a Learning Management System (LMS) for the development and delivery of eLearning is considered an asset.
  • Technologically savvy and able to pick up new products and processes with ease.
  • Knowledge or experience in the automotive industry are considered assets.
  • Exceptional team player with strong customer service orientation.
  • Valid 5F drivers license, and own transportation to and from work
